Young boy in Zeco school uniform

Zeco, the UK supplier of school uniform and sportswear, is expanding its range of eco garments.

For several years now, the company has offered eco-blazers in 100% eco-polyester fabric. This means all of the polyester used is made from non-biodegradable PET bottles. The fabric is also gold GRS and SCS certified. In time, all of the supplier’s blazers will be eco.

However, Zeco is now shifting its entire range of boys’ trousers and shorts to eco-fabric at no extra cost.

The eco-trouser fabric is made from 65% eco-polyester and 35% sustainable viscose. One hundred per cent of the polyester used is made from non-biodegradable, recycled plastic water bottles instead of crude oil.

The viscose, meanwhile, is made using sustainably sourced wood and manufactured using processes that minimise waste. This fabric is also GRS certified and Zeco is currently working on SCS certification.

Furthermore, the company has added a stitch down pleat skirt to its range. This marks Zeco’s first skirt to be made from the same eco-fabric as its boys’ trousers.

Finally, Zeco also offers sweatshirts and jogging bottoms featuring 40% recycled fabric.

The eco-sweatshirt material that Zeco has been using for over 15 years is made from 40% recycled fabric. Most of the cotton used is regenerated too, which means the majority of the wasted cotton is re-used to make yarn.

Commenting on Zeco’s eco-products is sales director, Ravi Taheam. “We want to do our bit for the planet, which includes investing in eco school uniform. The aim is that our customers feel even prouder about the products they sell.

“We’re also looking into organic for items such as T-shirts and polos, which are predominantly made from cotton. Plus, we’re reviewing our other polyester products to see if they can be made using eco-polyester. For example, our range of bags.”
