Children sat in a room with a child sat in a wheelchair

Children’s footwear brand Zig+Star is embracing sustainable design and circularity. The aim is to address the number of unused shoes that can end up at the bottom of the wardrobe or simply thrown away.

Zig+Star’s Good-To-Grow design concept creates styles that grow and adjust with each child, therefore lasting longer and reducing consumption.

Globally, approximately 22 billion pairs of shoes are sent to landfill every year

For autumn, this design concept comes in the form of an innovative removable midsole that adjusts fit up to half a size. This creates at least six months of extra room to grow.

Materials are selected for their durability (premium leather uppers and natural rubber outsoles). Or, for their eco credentials (recycled, recyclable and compostable packaging).

As a unisex brand, Zig+Star also celebrates individuality and self-expression and wants kids to have the freedom to be themselves without restriction. The brand’s suitcase shoebox, meanwhile, is designed for fun and adventure and includes a handy foot measuring chart inside.

Passionate about circularity, Zig+Star offers three end-of-life solutions

Firstly, resale. Customers can sell their old products via the brand’s nominated resale platform and receive a discount towards their next purchase. Also, donate. Zig+Star pays to send old shoes to a nominated charity, so that they reach those who need them most. Finally, recycle. Customers can return old shoes for free to be recycled and used for re-surfacing playgrounds, among other end uses.
