Poynton in Cheshire now boasts a brand-new independent childrenswear business following the opening Hunnybuns Baby and Childrenswear Boutique on 19 September.

Despite the lockdown restrictions presented by Covid-19, owner Sue Bennison was determined to achieve her goal of providing the local vicinity with good quality, ethically sourced childrenswear. Following extensive research and many late nights of online courses, her dream finally became reality.

“Hunnybuns was to be my ‘passionate project’ after spending the majority of my working life in aviation flying out of Manchester International Airport,” she says. “With the sudden collapse of airline travel and my unexpected redundancy from life at 40,000 ft, I felt that it was time to ‘hop’ into action to provide a much-needed service to my local community.”

The concept behind the store’s design is that the atmosphere is more like a nursery or playroom than a boutique. The aim is for children to feel comfortable and welcome. To assist this, the shop features various stencil designs of bunnies, hot air balloons and aeroplanes for children to find. In turn, accompanying adults can browse at leisure, safe in the knowledge their children are happy and occupied.

Hunnybuns offers everyday, comfortable and durable outfits alongside special occasionwear at affordable prices.

Available brands include 1 Two Kids, Albetta, Blade & Rose, Blues Baby and Emile et Rose. Also, Grass & Air, Hatley, Kite, Lilly & Sid, Milon, Mintini and Picture Book Fashion. Plus, Rainbow Designs, The Bonnie Mob, The Little Tailor, Toby Tiger, Turtledove London, Tutto Piccolo and Ziggle.

Hunnybuns is taking a community-driven approach to business.

However, plans to participate in community events – as well as host them in-store – are currently on hold due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, when restrictions ease, Hunnybuns will be ready.

“We are passionate about involving our local community, including other communities close by,” continues Bennison. “We are working on a community notice board to display in the vestibule of Hunnybuns. This will inform our residents of the ample opportunities available for our young people in the immediate area and beyond.

“Our first week in business on our high street has been phenomenal. We are now trying to build on this response to project Hunnybuns forward to an even better future. We have taken on-board the comments from our valued customers and are tweaking our marketing strategies accordingly. After all, we aim to please.”
