High Street Shops image 2020

Entries are now open for the Best Small Shops competition 2020, with UK independent retailers from all sectors able to apply.

The Best Small Shops competition celebrates both the commitment and creativity of entrepreneurial independents on the UK’s high streets. It also recognises the central role independent retailers play in building local communities.

Any independent retailer based in the UK can enter the competition free of charge.

In the initial selection process, shops must promote the benefits of their retail offering to consumers. They do this through a listing on the Indie Retail directory; you can create a listing for free here. Customers then vote for their favourite shop via its listing.

Entrants can help promote their listing by downloading the Best Small Shops logo to display on their website, which links directly back to their shop listing.

The most successful applications selected over 10 weeks of consumer voting will go forward to an industry panel and formal review. (Eco-conscious children’s lifestyle store Small Stuff made the shortlist for last year’s Best Small Shops 2019 competition.)

Shortlisted retailers will receive an invite to attend a reception in the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion in November. There, a winner will be awarded the title of Best Small Shop 2020.

The Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC) manages the Best Small Shops competition. Click here for further information and to enter your store.
