Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership

Ismay Mummery, founder of sustainable boys’ fashion brand Boy Wonder, was selected for the recent Circular Disruptors Accelerator run by the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership (CISL). The initiative was part of Circular Economy Week 2022.

The two-day intensive programme included 21 other circular businesses. It kicked off with some Lego serious play, using the medium of Lego to interpret different circular or business ideas with a partner. Other highlights were informative talks by experts such as Ken Webster, who was head of Innovation at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Also, trailblazers such as Kresse Wesling OBE of Elvis and Kresse, and Deborah Barker from Fibreshed.

As well as covering circularity and reducing impact, many sessions also addressed regeneration.

“It was amazing to be part of such an innovative group of entrepreneurs covering sectors as varied as space tech to construction and of course fashion,” says Mummery. “Some ideas that really impressed me were Give Your Best, which is a free to buy pre-loved clothing app for refuge women. Also, Educopod, which makes modular building blocks for creating quick and easy-to-assemble housing.

“I am very proud to now be part of the CISL alumni. The whole experience was thought-provoking and got me asking myself lots of serious questions about the business. It has also established lots of incredible connections with people that I hope to be able to collaborate with in the future.”
