National Weaving Company, a British manufacturer established for over 25 years, has introduced several changes to its business as part of a strategy to become more environmentally friendly.
Steps the company has already taken include using eco-friendly compostable polybags where they are necessary. The aim is to reduce the business’ plastic use by 25% by June 2022. It is also gradually transitioning all yarns from manufactured polyester to recycled polyester.
Nametapes, along with all other woven labels, are currently made using at least 50% recycled polyester yarn, with some colours being 100% recycled. However, by June 2022, the company aims to have all nametapes manufactured using 100% recycled yarn.
Where possible, any new yarn purchased is 100% recycled, meaning the only manufactured polyester being used is existing stock. Equally, all printed satin labels use recycled polyester ribbon, which is made from plastic bottles via a UK supplier. Finally, the company’s factory is now being powered by 100% renewable electricity.
