Launched in late November 2020, Bella + Phoenix makes creative clothes for kids as well as illustrated goods for the home. The company’s philosophy is of learning through play and being inspired by nature.

Bella + Phoenix is created by Debbie Turrell, a Sussex-based graphic designer/illustrator and mum. From a young age, both of Turrell’s children showed an avid interest in the natural world. From rock pooling to finding mini beasties in the back garden; everything would be inspected and then talked about.

Taking inspiration from children’s fascination with the natural world, Turrell came up with the ‘Tee of Knowledge’. The range has since expanded into prints, greeting cards and notebooks.

 

 

Tee of Knowledge

The brand’s themed T-shirts for kids come with a little book of knowledge to help grow their minds. So not only can a child wear their T-shirt, but they can also tell you all about it.

Kids aged 3 to 11 years can choose from a variety of themes to wear and learn about; from bugs, dinosaurs and leaves to sea creatures and space. The leaves T-shirt, for instance, comes with a book explaining all the leaves’ names. Plus, the trees they come from and where they grow.

 

 

Planet-friendly

Being passionate about ethical production means all Bella + Phoenix clothing is hand screen printed to order in the brand’s Sussex studio. It also uses organic cottons and eco-friendly inks.

 

 

The prints and greeting cards, meanwhile, are all printed on recycled stock using vegetable inks. All packaging is recycled and 100% biodegradable, too.
