This month saw the opening of the first standalone Schuh Kids store in Manchester. Complete with a newly designed concept, the kids’ store is located in the Trafford Centre next door to Schuh’s existing store on the upper level.

Marking the second kids’ store Schuh has opened, the retail space offers a custom ‘mini me’ experience of the main Schuh store design concept. The layout, meanwhile, is gender neutral. It presents collections by brand and moves away from the traditional girl and boy categorisation, delivering a shopping experience that fosters self-expression rather than leading by gender.

Fitted with tactile fabrics and fun furniture, the store also offers visually stimulating displays and an interactive gaming station. Furthermore, to create a frictionless customer experience, payment in the new store is via mobile transactions at the point of sale.

Opening just in time for Back to School shopping, the store offers an extensive range of products

Highlights include Dr. Martens and Kickers, with a variety of iconic styles now available in vegan options. The store also carries the exclusive Schuh own-label range alongside school bags

Commenting is Zoe Inman, Centre Director at Trafford Centre. “We’re delighted to welcome Schuh Kids to Trafford Centre this month. Following the success of the existing Schuh store, the new kids’ standalone is an incredible growth opportunity for both Schuh and the centre, bringing both loyal and new customers to the North West.”

Donna MacLeod, Kids Operations Manager, adds; “Opening a new store always causes a certain amount of anticipation, but even more so when it means we can be neighbours with our existing Schuh store. This standalone store will allow us to deliver a shopping experience for our Manchester customers that is totally dedicated to kids, making Schuh the go-to destination for children’s shoes all year round.”

Schuh’s takeback scheme – ‘Too Big For Your Boots’

This core shopping incentive encourages parents and kids to hand in their old, worn shoes. In return, they receive £5 off a brand-new pair. The £5 off vouchers are redeemable both online and in-store with their next purchase. Working with Recyclatex, shoe donations are collected from stores, with approximately 98% of all components and materials being reused.

For every tonne collected, the funds raised support Schuh’s sustainability partner of choice, the World Land Trust, and its Plant a Tree programme. The aim is to create a circular economy with an effort to make footwear more sustainable. As of December 2021, Schuh has planted 9,527 trees as a direct result of the nationwide takeback scheme.
