Childrenswear brand Raspberry Republic has launched a new Alfie Atkins capsule collection to help support water purification projects in Western Africa.
Alfons Åberg (Alfie Atkins’ Swedish name) is one of Scandinavia’s favourite children’s book characters; over 9.5 million books about Alfie Atkins have been published worldwide in around 30 languages.
Raspberry Republic, which has the global rights to use both the characters and images from the Alfie Atkins books, has created an official collection to promote a more sustainable approach towards the environment. It is doing this by donating 20% of the collection’s proceeds to support water purification projects.
Via a partnership with Well Constructed, a registered charity that helps improve access to water in Ghana, funds from the collection will go towards building wells in remote rural areas; giving thousands of people in Western Africa access to clean water.
Currently, only 27% of the population of Ghana has access to clean water. The estimate is that around 70% of all diseases in the country are due to poor sanitation and unsafe water. The situation in remote rural areas is usually worse.
By investing in water projects worldwide, the project also aims to offset the water used to cultivate cotton.
