Introducing Roamie, the new sustainable companion for your little one’s adventures. It’s time to spark curiosity and embrace the adventurous spirit of childhood. Everyone is searching for sustainable alternatives, and that’s where Roamie comes to the rescue. This William Turner project has been designed with a commitment to the planet and an aim to re-establish a childhood curiosity. Roamie provides children with eco-friendly backpacks, water bottles, lunch bags and pencil cases that you can add to your little one’s wardrobe. Whether they mix and match or stick to what they love the most, Roamie provides many print options from ditsy florals and out-of-this-world space adventures to a fairytale land filled with magic. CWB’s Laura Turner caught up with Roamie’s product designers, Chloe Hitchinson and Jane McCready, to talk about the inspiration behind the eco-friendly collection and what’s next for the inspiring brand.
Laura Turner: What was the inspiration for Roamie?
Roamie was created to reflect the adventurous spirit and curiosity that defines childhood. We wanted to create bags that not only spark imagination with fun prints but also reflect our commitment to the planet by using eco-friendly fabrics. Balancing quality with affordability, Roamie ensures that every child can enjoy durable, playful backpacks and accessories for their adventures, all while parents feel good about their choice.
LT: Can you share the story behind the brand’s name?
It was important to us that we chose a name that would resonate with both children and parents. The name Roamie was inspired by the idea of exploring. The word “roam” immediately suggests the idea of wandering and being curious about the world. By adding the playful suffix “i.e.,” we created a name that feels friendly and approachable, just like the young adventurers we design for.
LT: What challenges did you face during the development and launch of the brand, and how did you overcome them?
During Roamie’s development, we faced challenges in sourcing eco-friendly materials that balanced sustainability with affordability, and in designing products that were both playful and practical. We tackled these issues by utilising our strong relationship with existing suppliers and seeking valuable feedback from parents and children on our designs and prints.
LT: Could you describe Roamie products and explain what makes them stand out in the market?
The Roamie collection features backpacks, lunch bags, pencil cases and water bottles, all available in eight vibrant matching prints. Each item is thoughtfully designed with details like carry straps, extra pockets, and reflective elements for road safety. The materials are also easy to clean, thanks to their water-repellent finish. Given the impact of uniform policies on sales of badged bags, we’ve introduced a range of branded bags and water bottles, allowing retailers to continue offering bags as a key accessory for the Back to School season.
With a proven track record of quality and service, this new range reflects our commitment to excellence. Retailers can order single pieces, which will be in stock year-round. As unbadged products, Roamie also offers retailers the opportunity to protect their margins, while still being priced competitively against other leading high street brands. The collection will be refreshed annually, with plans to expand the product line as the brand grows
LT: What are your future goals and aspirations for Roamie?
Looking ahead, Roamie aims to expand our product range with innovative designs that continue to blend fun and functionality. We aspire to deepen our commitment to sustainability by incorporating even more eco-friendly materials and practices. Our goal is to build a global community of young adventurers and their families while maintaining our focus on affordability and quality. We’re excited to grow, and wherever the next adventure takes us, Roamie is ready to go too, turning every journey into a story worth telling. Ready to start your journey with Roamie?
