Launched over 10 years ago, Vintage Kit is a lifestyle brand for children age six months to 12 years, encompassing clothes, bedding, wallpaper and lampshades.
The brand made its debut in July 2007 with a boutique, vintage-inspired collection designed to dress children beautifully whilst also allowing them to play freely.
Vintage Kit’s roots are drawn from an eclectic mix of British style influences. It offers clothes featuring soft and comfortable fabrics, which are also highly creative and individual.
Everything by Vintage Kit features hand-drawn prints of original characters; not to mention some of the best-loved cartoon characters of all time through a co-brand collection with Disney.
To produce the ranges, the company works closely with a small group of talented seamstresses. It also aims to ensure all printing and manufacturing take place in the UK; a very important factor for such a quintessentially British brand.
Collections are handmade or hand-finished in Vintage Kit’s studio in Wales and London. Plus, it prints its hand-drawn fabrics here in the UK using natural or low-impact dyes.
Brand founder and designer Katherine Trigg has a background in art, textiles and fashion.
Her collections are designed and made with integrity, balancing delicate, vintage nostalgia with modern and wearable shapes. This original ethos continues to be the core of her design process.
“We strive to design and make beautiful handmade clothes that are still cool and in small quantities,” she says. “We’re also mindful of the planet and avoid fast fashion.”
In the words of Harvey Nichols, Vintage Kit ‘is a melange of old and new, which looks both strangely fresh and familiar at the same time. Innovative and original, and at the same time, nostalgic and kiddish’.
The brand’s current projects include creating samples for bedding, wallpaper and lampshades. It is also in the process of developing a small ladies’ collection.
