Like many small businesses, childrenswear brand Freckles and Daisies began life from a kitchen table. Owner Andrea James started the business following 14 years of working in the fashion industry. During that time, she learned her craft as a buyer and designer for high street brands and travelled the world. After having two children, however, she needed more flexibility to work around family life. Tapping into her experience and creativity, she created Freckles and Daisies in 2014.

“My inspiration and creative nature came from my mum, who was incredible,” says Andrea. “She was a dressmaker for Topshop and French Connection. I would show her a picture of an outfit in Vogue magazine, we would go to Hitchin market to buy fabric, and I would have designer trousers for a Saturday night out. When my daughter Mabel was born I began making newborn outfits and dresses exactly as my mum did for me.”

All of the brand’s items are sustainably handmade in the UK.

Fast-forward to 2022, and Freckles and Daisies now runs from a workshop. Being based in the border town of Chepstow means some of the products are made in Wales and some in England. There, the brand’s small team of passionate machinists − many of whom are mums who value the importance of a company that supports flexible working − produce children’s clothes for 0-7 years.

Freckles and Daisies specialises in “unique prints with personality,” which feature across a variety of products ranging from rompers and leggings to bibs and shoes. The brand also uses the highest quality fabrics (200gsm) sourced from its partner mills in Europe to ensure a low carbon footprint. Furthermore, all fabrics are 100 OEKO-TEX as standard, which means there are no harmful chemicals.

“Our hero products are the rompers, shortie rompers and leggings,” continues Andrea. “Any of our ‘F and D’ exclusive prints can be made into these products. We also have accessories such as bibs, hats and shoes, which contain upcycled suede; perfect for baby showers or newborn gifts.”

Freckles and Daisies currently stocks 20 independent shops but is now ready to increase its accounts. For wholesale enquiries, please contact hello@frecklesanddaisies.com. You can also click here to visit the brand’s website.

Furthermore, retailers can view Freckles and Daisies’ collection at the upcoming edition of INDX Kidswear in Solihull on 3-4 July. Visitor registration for the show is available here.
