Young boy in Frugi's Woodland Trust range of kids clothing

Ethical and organic children’s clothing brand Frugi is launching a licensed range of outdoor clothing and accessories with Europe’s largest conservation charity, the National Trust.

Inspired by the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ activities together with the many woodlands in the charity’s care, Frugi has created an exclusive range ideal for discovering the outdoors.

The outdoor capsule collection includes everything a little explorer needs; whether they’re building dens or going on scavenger hunts. As well as offering full protection against the outdoor elements, the outerwear and accessories are also kind to the environment.

The collaboration

Every product purchased from this range will directly contribute to the National Trust’s charitable cause; helping to look after nature, beauty, and history for everyone, forever. It will also help care for the very places, such as woodlands and coastlines, that inspire these products and that both companies want to motivate children to explore.

Frugi's Woodland Trust range

When children spend time playing outdoors it increases their wellbeing as well as that of their families. A National Trust survey revealed that 80% of the happiest people in the UK say they have a strong connection with the natural world. This is in comparison to less than 40% of the unhappiest.

It also reported that children who spend more time in nature are more likely to care for the natural environment when they grow up. Through learning about plants and animals, we are more likely to care for their long-term wellbeing; a common goal for both organisations.

The National Trust looks after 500 places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This includes 250,000 hectares of countryside and 780 miles of coastline. From the Lake District to the Giants Causeway and the White Cliffs of Dover; it cares for these places to ensure that nature and people can thrive together.

Frugi will contribute a minimum of £50,000 over three years through sales of this collection. The fund will go towards supporting the National Trust’s conservation work.

The Frugi x National Trust Collection – Woodland Wanders

With designs taking inspiration from classic woodland creatures and the iconic symbols of the National Trust – the acorn and oak leaf – this collection of organic and recycled clothing and accessories will appeal to children aged 0-10 years.

Commenting on the collaboration is Frugi’s CEO, Hugo Adams. “After such a disruptive year for many children, spending time in nature in their garden or parks has proved how important it is for children to engage in nature and the environment around them. Frugi is proud to support the National Trust in inspiring children to love the great outdoors.”

Also commenting is Becky Stanford, brand licensing manager for the National Trust. “As Europe’s largest conservation charity, working with organisations that share our passion for caring for the environment is of paramount importance. Frugi is a fabulous fit. It brings both sustainable products that promote excellent ethical and environmental practices and it cares and shares our passion for connecting children with the natural world around them.”

Organic and recycled clothing for children

Frugi’s bright and colourful GOTS Certified organic cotton clothing is not only better for the environment by using less water during manufacture, but organic cotton also feels super-soft. The fibres are left intact and are not broken down by the chemicals used in the farming and processing of conventional cotton. This results in clothes that are kinder to babies’ and young children’s delicate skin.

Also, there are no harmful chemicals or dangerous dyes. This means organic cotton is also less likely to trigger allergies. Plus, organic cotton is more durable and lasts much longer, enabling the clothes to be handed down for generations.

As an ethically sourced, organic brand, Frugi is also doing something about plastic pollution at sea. With 90% of seabirds having plastic in their stomachs and 159 plastic bottles for every mile of beach in the UK, Frugi only uses Global Recycle Standards (GRS) certified yarns to make the fabrics for its outerwear, lunch bags and pencil cases. One of Frugi’s Puddle Buster coats for 4-6 years is made using 20 400ml recycled plastic drinking bottles.

The National Trust Collection will be available for purchase via Frugi, the National Trust shop and select stockists in the UK. For wholesale enquiries please contact  info@frugiwholesale.com.
