Sustainable outdoor kidswear brand Isbjörn of Sweden is adding Ocean Waste ECONYL® regenerated nylon to its Sun collection for s/s 23.

ECONYL® transforms nylon waste from the ocean into regenerated nylon with the same durability as new nylon. ECONYL® can also be recycled, recreated and remoulded many times over. This allows the creation of new items, like Isbjörn’s non-chemical sun products, without having to use new resources.

Isbjörn, a bluesign® system partner, recently outlined its ambitious sustainability pledge. This includes reducing emissions by at least 50% by 2033, being Net Zero by 2045, and becoming a fully circular brand. Adding ECONYL® regenerated nylon to its sunwear collection is yet another important step on Isbjörn’s sustainability journey.

As well as upgrading the material, Isbjörn has also redesigned its SPF50+ sun products.

Highlights include a contrasting ocean graphic on the new Dolphin Sun Jumpsuit and Sealion Sun Sweater. The drawing is a playful celebration of the world’s oceans. It is also a reminder of how important sustainability work is for the welfare of the oceans and the planet. Fresh new colours, meanwhile, include mint, navy and bubblegum. Isbjörn is also incorporating the new ocean design into its Tencel® Tee collection.

Commenting is Selma Jakobsson, Production & Sustainability Manager at Isbjörn: “We wanted to create a high quality and playful swimwear collection that protects both the oceans and the children wearing it. To make our vision of a striking ocean print with an important message come to life, we collaborated with the talented artist Marie Chanteur.”

Isbjörn’s s/s 23 Sun collection comprises: Dolphin Sun Jumpsuit; Sealion Sun Sweater; Walrus Sun Leggings; Otter Sun Hat; and Whale Sun Cap.

Jakobsson continues; “Our ECONYL® sun collection is an important step towards our goal of phasing out virgin microplastics by 2026. Some conventional swimwear can release microplastics, but our collection is resistant to pilling and made from recycled fishnets, ensuring that no new microplastics are released into the sea. We’re protecting our children from the sun’s harmful rays as well as cleaning up the ocean from plastic waste.”

The design and construction of Isbjörn’s sun range ensure garments are twice as resistant to chlorine, suntan cream and oil compared to other fabrics. All products are also tested and certified to guarantee a sun protection factor of more than 50.
