Ethical brand Little Green Radicals, which designs colourful, organic and Fairtrade baby and children’s clothes, has introduced a range of soft toys. Made from upcycled and leftover fabrics, the toys are 100% organic and Fairtrade cotton, both inside and out.

Usually, soft toys feature petroleum plastics like polyester. However, Little Green Radicals uses non-toxic organic cotton and water-based GOTS-approved dyes. This ensures babies and children can safely chew and cuddle the toys.

Wherever possible, the brand uses leftover fabric offcuts that would otherwise go to waste for the outside of the toys. Shredding and upcycling small pieces of organic and Fairtrade cotton − a by-product when the fabric is cut − creates the toys’ fluffy stuffing.

 

 

Commenting on the launch is Little Green Radicals founder, Nick Pecorelli.

“Since our inception, we have been organic and Fairtrade, but we always want to do more. Most soft toys are either made with petroleum-based plush or stuffed with polyester. Ours are made with 100% organic and Fairtrade cotton and include brightly coloured apples, rainbows, elephants and suns.”

Wherever possible, Little Green Radicals’ petroleum and plastic-free soft toys use 70% upcycled cotton fabric and 30% fabric cut-offs. The brand’s aim, however, is for 100% fabric utilisation.
