Kidswear peer-to-peer resale platform, dotte, has introduced a school uniform shop. Continuing its mission to combat children’s clothing waste, dotte launched the shop in July for parents to start listing outgrown school uniform items.

Passing school uniform on doesn’t just minimise waste. As the cost of living continues to rise, reselling school uniform also allows dotte’s community to earn money back, ready to reinvest in the next size up.

Commenting on the school uniform shop is dotte’s co-founder, Samantha Valentine

“There was a shocking piece of research conducted which found that in the UK, 1.4 million wearable school uniforms are binned every year. Plus, lots of parents continue to buy new for their little ones rather than looking at second-hand, when there are clearly so many wearable pieces going straight to landfill.

“We believe that’s because up until now, there has not been a clear solution. We have an amazing and active resale community who are already helping to reduce the stigma around second-hand kidswear in general; we just needed to spread the word that schoolwear can and should be resold too.”

How it works

On dotte, customers can buy and sell any school uniform item, including school shoes, trousers, jumpers and shirts. With badged or logoed items generally being donated to the school in question, dotte primarily focuses on generic items.

In addition, dotte’s partnerships with M&S and Clarks enable customers to earn rewards and discounts with both of these brands. For instance, for every M&S or Clarks item a customer resells on dotte – schoolwear included – they can make savings directly with these two brands.

“We hope that listing outgrown school uniform on dotte will soon become second nature,” concludes Valentine. “The more people shift habits, the less waste and the bigger impact we will have.”
