The winners of the MadeForMums Awards 2021 have been revealed; the result of 3,000 judging hours with industry experts, parenting influencers and at-home parent testers.

Amid the award categories was baby and children’s fashion. Features that were tested and judged included quality of fabrics, style and comfort. Also, how well the garments wash, fit/sizing and value for money.

 

Pickle

 

Baby and children’s fashion

Winning Gold in this category was childrenswear brand Pickle. Made in the UK for children up to 10 years of age, Pickle’s unique and gender-neutral designs cover rompers, T-shirts, sweatshirts, leggings, dresses and pyjamas, which home testers described as “lovely quality” and “easy to wear”.

Silver joint winner was Alex and Alexa. Catering from newborn to 16 years, Alex and Alexa offers almost 400 designer brands from around the globe, including Mini Rodini, Stella McCartney and Kuling.

Also Silver joint winner was childrenswear brand Blade & Rose. Known for its signature collection of knitted leggings, Blade & Rose also offers co-ordinating tops, footwear and accessories for kids age 0-10 years.

Scooping Bronze, meanwhile, was The Essential One Sleepsuit Collection. The high-quality fabrics and thoughtful design of these sleepsuits from family-run business The Essential One gave them high scores in effectiveness and quality.

 

Kidunk

 

Children’s outdoor clothing/activewear

In this category, items were judged on features such as warmth, how waterproof and windproof they are, and fit/sizing. Also, quality of materials, durability, design and value.

Taking joint Gold was Hippychick for its waterproof all-in-ones. As well as being great value, these waterproof, windproof and breathable suits have a clever design that ensures a good fit for children who are tall or short for their age.

Fellow joint Gold Award winner was Wet Wednesdays for its waterproof jacket and dungaree set, which keeps children warm and dry without hindering movement. Testers liked the jacket’s long back to keep out draughts, heavy-duty zip and adjustable Velcro cuffs. The dungarees also come with reinforced pads on the knees and bottom to withstand robust play.

The Silver Award winner in this category was Kidunk. Testers highlighted the fact Kidunk’s Teflon-coated tops and bottoms can be worn separately or zipped together to make a cosy waterproof puddlesuit.

Taking Bronze in this category was Muddy Puddles for its 3 in 1 Scampsuit. The Scampsuit was a big hit with testers due to its innovative design and all-weather features. Available for ages 0-6 years, children can wear the suit in three different ways to remain at the perfect temperature.

 

Splash About

 

Children’s swimwear

This category looked at features including UV sun protection, value for money, quality of materials and fit for a child’s age. Also, how well it washes, comfort, range of colours and design.

Taking Gold was Konfidence for its Splashy swimsuit. Made from e-Flex material, which combines nylon, polyester and recycled plastic, the Splashy swimsuit is good for the planet as well as comfortable for kids. With long arms and legs and UPF 50+ UV sun protection, it also keeps children safe in the sun.

Receiving Silver was Splash About Swimwear. The “funky” designs were a hit with testers, who also rated the durable materials and fit of the Splash About Swimwear range, which includes wetsuits, swim nappies and floatsuits. Available from birth up to age 6, the range also offers UPF 50+ UV sun protection.

The Limmys Premium Neoprene Swim Vest took Bronze for giving parents peace of mind and making children feel safe and supported in open water.

 

Bobux

 

Children’s shoe range

Assessment of the children’s footwear included size range, fit, durability and comfort. Also, choice of colours and materials, and being machine washable and waterproof.

Winning Gold was KEEN for the Seacamp II CNX. Testers praised the lightweight, summery open design; the shoes’ flexible soles; durable materials, and the wide colour range to suit both boys and girls. Also, the fact that the shoes are machine washable.

Bobux’s a/w 20 collection scooped the Silver Award. From trainers and school shoes to leather boots, Bobux received top marks from testers for using quality waterproof materials.

Bronze Award winner was Start-Rite Shoes. With sizes from 0-16 years, Start-Rite shoes are specially designed for the shape of a child’s foot; taking kids from first steps right through to secondary school. Testers loved the durability and how comfortable and well-fitting the shoes are.
